For me the First Mover programs are the culmination of my life’s work building movement programs that are powerful, inspiring, fun, safe, and accessible to everyone. Over the last 20 years I have identified many of the barriers, both physical and psychological that prevent us from continuing a regular exercise and movement program. This includes programs that are far too demanding; programs that do not provide adequate modifications for people with an injury history or suffering pain; programs that are rigid and lacking creativity; programs that do not accommodate for unexpected changes in physical and emotional well being; and programs that are just not fun to complete.

My passion is developing functional exercise programs that fit into your life, are inspiring to complete, and leave you feeling and looking incredible. 

My qualifications and experience express my commitment to learning and innovation. I hold university degrees in both Physiotherapy and Exercise Science. I am an accredited Strength and Conditioning coach, Pilates Instructor and advanced Hatha Yoga teacher. I combine this commitment to education with over 20 years of practical experience working with beginner to professional level athletes in surfing, basketball, football and outdoor adventure sports. The reason people seek my expertise are for 3 reasons:

  1. To assess, treat, and rehabilitate any current or pre-existing injuries

  2. To improve movement patterns through analysis of biomechanics

  3. To design and implement exercise programs to improve movement, quality of life and athletic performance.

JAMES WALKER - CO-FOUNDER

My goal is not to create another standard exercise program, it is to build you up from ground level in a safe and sustainable way. There are hundreds of programs out there that are essentially identical and often lead to injuries, overtraining and burnout. 

What we are striving to create here is a way for someone on any level to start from the basics and progress through to complex and difficult activities as you choose. There were many things that I learned during my studies that were so essential to not only exercise but to movement in general. I would often ask myself why don’t they teach this at school? This is the information we will be incorporating into your programs. Using our experience we have created something that is philosophically different from the typical exercise program and we endeavour to give you the ability to safely and comfortably perform whatever activities you choose while also providing you with good fitness, strength and mobility.

The source of fulfillment in my career has been combining theoretical and intellectual knowledge with physical and intuitive knowledge, or to put it simply how we think we move and how we actually move. I can’t wait to share the many revelations I’ve had over the course of my studies and practice with you.
